I decided to MAKE it outside, even when the fabric is closed. From the atrium space, the other rooms in the building will appear to be a stone and wood buildings modeled after the very general Asian tradition. Though I want to stay away from the influences of Asian culture, the beautiful ancient Chinese and Japanese architecture fits so well with this design and the idea of a paper lantern that I decided to move in this direction, despite the attached culture. Below is a very rough sketch of what such an indoor exterior may look like.

i really like this idea of the paper lantern, though i am curious what kind of material you are planing on using for the outside? To me it seems like you are just planing on having some kind of unavailing sheet, where as the paper lanterns you are drawing inspiration from tend to have more of a steadfast certain wall, which maybe would be something you should look into.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kyle, I'm still thinking about this. Though I want my design to be inspired from a paper lantern, I don't want it to BE a giant paper lantern. Having a free-flowing fabric is one of the ways I was going to separate the parti from the final design. We'll see what happens...
